In 19th century Paris, Claude Claudel and his grandfather Oscar run a metalworking shop in the Galerie du Roy shopping arcade. After returning home, Oscar introduces Claude to a young Japanese girl named Yune, whom he wants to live and work with them. Claude is initially unsure, but eventually agrees to Oscar's request. Claude struggles with Yune's unfamiliar customs as he tries to balance taking care of her and managing the shop. Despite this, as Yune settles in as a boarder and housekeeper, Claude becomes intrigued by her and strives to understand her vastly different culture.
