The assignment given to Squad 10 is to protect the "Ouin," a valuable item being transported in a royal procession. Captain Toushirou Hitsugaya and Lieutenant Rangiku Matsumoto are keeping a close watch on their surroundings. However, their plans go awry when the procession is attacked by a group of assailants who steal the Ouin. In the confusion that follows, Hitsugaya confronts one of the attackers but then runs off, leaving Matsumoto and the rest of the team bewildered. This results in Hitsugaya being accused of treachery by Seireitei and Squad 10 facing an indefinite lockdown. Ichigo Kurosaki, while in pursuit of a spiritual disturbance, stumbles upon the injured Captain, but is taken aback when Hitsugaya unexpectedly flees. After grasping the situation, Ichigo, Rukia Kuchiki, Renji Abarai, and Matsumoto unite to protect Hitsugaya and uncover the truth about the Ouin's theft. Nevertheless, as Hitsugaya tracks down the real culprit, he is tormented by a specter from his past.
