The movie is split into two parts, with the first part recapping the TV series. It revolves around Mirai Kuriyama, the last surviving member of a Spirit World warrior clan who use their blood as weapons to hunt and kill negative human emotion manifestations called "youmu." In her quest, Mirai encounters Akihito Kanbara, an immortal half-breed of youmu in human form whom she accidentally wounds with her blood sword. As Mirai tries to kill Akihito repeatedly to regain her confidence, their bond strengthens, and they're eventually joined by two other warriors, Hiroomi and Mitsuki Nase, in the Literary Club. However, they face an increasingly tougher battle as the release of the most powerful youmu, Beyond the Boundary, becomes imminent.
