Mahjong is a game that can be enjoyed with loved ones, but it also has a darker side that appeals to those in the seedy underworld. Nangou, a gambling addict with a crippling debt of three million yen, makes a bold move by challenging the mafia to a high-stakes mahjong game in the hopes of redeeming himself. As the game progresses, Nangou's luck wanes and death seems inevitable. However, just as hope fades, Shigeru Akagi bursts into the scene as a fugitive from the law. Nangou takes the opportunity to teach Akagi the game's nuances, and eventually passes the baton to him. Initially ridiculed by the mafia, Akagi soon proves to possess an uncanny knack for gambling and a fearless attitude towards peril. He becomes a legend in his own right as a gambler.
