Set in the Shanghai Ghetto during World War II when it was under Japanese control, the movie's story follows three young characters - Rina and her brother Mishalli, both Jewish refugees who escaped Europe without their parents, and A-Gen, a Chinese boy who helps them survive. The trio develops a strong connection as they face danger from the Japanese army and their Nazi supporters amidst the backdrop of the ongoing Second Sino-Japanese War.
